The Making Of The Johnson’s Wedding Invitations

Celebrity singer and actress Jessica Simpson has two companies to thank for her wedding invitations — and they’re both from Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Simpson’s marriage to her husband Eric Johnson, former tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, took place on July 5 in Santa Barbara, California, but the local design and printing companies — Momental Designs, of Wyoming, and Corcoran Printing, of Wilkes-Barre — broke their silence on Monday about their role in the creation of Simpson’s wedding invitations.

Bill Corcoran, owner of Corcoran Printing, explained that he had to sign a nondisclosure agreement after being selected for the project.

“We were pretty excited about it,” Corcoran said. “At the same time, we couldn’t talk about it.”

At long last, Corcoran said he’s able to take credit for his role in printing 150 invitations and reply cards for the Simpson-Johnson wedding.

He explained that Simpson selected his company based on his expertise with foil stamping, a process in which metallic foil, usually gold or silver, is embossed onto the stationery.

“Very few printers have the ability and the skill to produce high-quality foil stamping,” Corcoran said.

Kristy Rice, owner of Momental Designs, said she got the call for this project in October.

She said her friend Mindy Weiss, a professional wedding and event planner, was tasked with finding an invitation designer for the wedding, and immediately thought of her.

“She just called me directly and said ‘I want you to do it,’” Rice said.

Rice said the project came with a small caveat: She didn’t know who the clients were until she was months into the design. Until December, all she knew was that the clients were celebrities.

As they were working on the under-wraps design, Rice’s 10-person design team would make predictions about who their celebrity clients were. As it turned out, some of them had guessed correctly that they were working on the design for the Simpson-Johnson wedding.

Rice said they quickly learned that Simpson had a very particular vision for her invitations. Over the course of the project, Rice said her company went through 12 to 15 fully completed mock-up designs before both parties could agree on a finalized version. A typical wedding invitation project, she said, goes through two or three mock-ups.

“Jessica was pretty detailed,” Rice said. “She knew what she wanted.”

Now that the wedding has passed, Corcoran said he plans to continue to work with Momental Designs for upcoming jobs.

“We’ve formed a nice alliance,” he said, adding that Rice has given his company more business after working on the Simpson wedding invites together.

Rice said she knew about Corcoran Printing before working on these invitations, but after their collaboration, she said she’s impressed by the quality of their foil stamping.

“Corcoran was just amazing, they got right back to us,” Rice said. “We’re referring a ton of business to them now.”

From the dress to the matching rings to the cake, Jessica Simpson paid great attention to detail when planning her gorgeous summer wedding to Eric Johnson. So it should come as no surprise that her manicure was also extra special (and of course, it required more than one polish shade to perfect).

“When I created the color, I was actually custom-matching [it] to the dress,” celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik told PEOPLE. “We wanted it to be in the same vein of the dress without being too matchy-matchy. Jess picked the final color, and I kept going back to [stylist/bridesmaid] Nicole [Chavez] and asking, ‘Lighter or darker?’ and she said lets keep it lighter, fun and fresh.”

The end result? A mix of four different custom gels with layers of taupe, tan and even a hint of shimmer. “The process started with a base color. Originally, I went a little more taupe and cool in tone and then as we played with it it didn’t feel romantic and warm enough. So I added a different tan, I warmed up the color and then lightened it up quite a bit to pick up the highlights in the dress. I finished it off with a custom blend of pearlescent gold shimmer that gave it a champagne luminosity and some depth and sparkle.”

And the color wasn’t complete until the big day. “I probably went back and forth like 20 times that morning to look at the dress in the bedroom and match the color,” Bachik says.

As for the bridesmaids, Bachik says, it was nude for manis and pedis: “It was very neutral and classic. They all had their own nude shades and it looked great with all the different colors of the dresses.”

He added that sister Ashlee Simpson needed a little convincing on the pedi: “She was like, ‘Nude on my toes? What am going to do? I always do color!’”

But her big sister’s vision ultimately pulled everything together perfectly. “Jess was so totally calm,” Bachik shared. “The main thing she wanted was to be in the moment, and she wanted her girls to look perfect. It was so sweet and fun.”

Jessica and Eric wedding: JESSICA’S DREAM DRESS

JS-Wedding-In-Depth

On July 5, Jessica Simpson married longtime love Eric Johnson in her idyllic setting and ceremony in Montecito, CA. But the show-stopping element of her long-awaited nuptials was her custom Carolina Herrera wedding gown. The bride-to-be worked closely with Carolina to create her bridal fantasy, the collaborative process culminated in the strapless champagne and gold multi-layer gown with sequined embroidery and a matching cathedral length veil. The delicate embroidery highlights the couture craftsmanship and expertise of the House of Herrera’s New York-based atelier. Originally inspired by a brocade from the late 19th century, Carolina’s design team inverted the motif to create the embroidery on Jessica’s gown. The gentle and warm hues of the fabric drew inspiration from golden and amber wheat sheaths (for good luck!). For further good luck and well wishes, Carolina Herrera included her signature “something blue” inside the bride’s gown, in grosgrain details inside the bodice. The classic ball gown silhouette and full tulle skirt made for a regal yet still romantic impact. Jessica paired the softly constructed gown with a blush bouquet and classic diamond drop earrings for a timeless and elegant wedding day look.

A new husband. A new life of wedded bliss. An now, a new last name!

Jessica Simpson has taken husband Eric Johnson’s last name, posting an Instagram snapshot proudly proclaiming the moniker “Jessica Johnson” in its caption.

And what a snapshot it is: The star basks in the sun – and, no doubt, the glow of being a newlywed – as she lounges on a pool chair while wearing a festive one-piece swimsuit.

In hand? A refreshing drink to match the sunny vibe.

Palm trees and blue skies in Paradise! Newlyweds Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson unraveled from their fourth of July wedding weekend at the luxurious Four Seasons Punta Mita Resort in Mexico, Us Weekly has learned.

Following their swanky July 5 nuptials at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, Calif., the couple flew down to the stunning property for a secluded (and sexy!) honeymoon, where an insider tells Us the couple stayed at one of the hotel’s presidential suites.

“They had an amazing time and looked so in love during the entire visit,” the eyewitness tells Us of the duo. “They enjoyed cocktails by the pool and spent a lot of time on the beach, just relaxing after their big day.”

The gorgeous locale was enough for the couple, who, according to the source, didn’t even visit the spa. “They just let the natural surroundings put them at peace,” adds the insider.

Another source tells Us that Jessica spent time unwinding from wedding planning. “They [were] lounging around at the resort,” the insider says, “and enjoying their first week together as husband and wife.”

The Punta Mita resort is located along the country’s Riviera Nayarit and boasts of world-class services and amenities. Johnson, a former pro football player, and Simpson had their choice of numerous ocean activity options, including snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, surfing, and even chartering a private yacht.
